Bradford £20,000 Go-Greener Fund deadline extended to Sunday 15 June

  • Bradford Go-Greener Fund will make single awards of £2,000 to support growth ideas
  • Organisers stress that energy saving and efficiency ideas are not eligible

First West Yorkshire has announced that the deadline to apply for a share of £20,000 from the Bradford Go-Greener Fund has been extended to Sunday 19 June at 6:00pm. The deadline was originally today (Tuesday 14 June).

The decision has been made to allow more time for small firms and owner-managers to take up the opportunity given the recent busy period with Jubilee celebrations for many consumer businesses.

The fund was launched three weeks ago by First West Yorkshire with support from Green Street, an organisation helping small retailers to become more sustainable which is pioneering is first project in Bradford, and the West Yorkshire Combined Authority.

Applications must be made on a dedicated page of the First West Yorkshire website Firstbus.co.uk/bradfordgogreenerfund with the successful firms being awarded money in July.

Organisers say they have been delighted with the response so far but are keen to stress that energy saving or efficiency ideas are not eligible for the fund and encourage entrants to check the terms and conditions and, if necessary, re-apply.

Businesses in sectors including bars and cafes, gifts, arts and crafts, clothing, live entertainment, hospitality, health and beauty, fresh produce and property are among those to have already applied.

The Bradford £20k Go-Greener Fund aims to help support ideas and projects that create value in a business or inspires customers to change their behaviour to become more sustainable in the choices of what to buy and services to use. It can be used to invest in equipment, raw materials or technology, expand sustainable services or a product range and introduce innovation in waste management.

First West Yorkshire Managing Director, Paul Matthews said: “All owners need to do is complete a simple entry form with four questions on the website to be in with a chance of securing thousands of pounds to give their plans a boost.”

The Bradford Go-Greener Fund will make awards of £2,000 to 10 successful applicants. Videos showcasing these businesses will then go to a people’s vote with the winner receiving a fully-funded sustainability review of their business with advice from experts, paid for by the Combined Authority.

Green Street Founder Victoria Robertshaw and Vincent McCabe, Programme Lead (Clean Growth & Innovation) at the Combined Authority will help in assessing and deciding successful entries in a panel together with Paul Matthews.
