First York increases Park & Ride frequency to support festive travel season

  • Weekend timetable changes from Sunday 19 November to Saturday 23 December
  • Service frequency increased up to every 10 minutes
  • Operating at Rawcliffe Bar, Askham Bar, Designer Outlet and Grimston Bar

First York is increasing the frequency of services on the Park & Ride network, which it runs the partnership with City of York Council, to support growing travel in the lead up to the festive season.

From this Sunday 19 November weekend services will operate up to every 10 minutes from four key locations into the city and connecting to major shopping districts on the outskirts.

The sites are: Rawcliffe Bar, Askham Bar, Designer Outlet and Grimston Bar.

The increase in frequency will remain in place for every weekend until Saturday 23 December.

Poppleton Bar and Monks Cross Park & Ride will also be open as normal, running to their usual timetable throughout the lead up to Christmas.

Kayleigh Ingham, Commercial Director of First Bus in North & West Yorkshire, said: “We know that York becomes an even bigger attraction for visitors and local people at this time of year. There’s so much to discover and enjoy in the city and we anticipate increasing demand for our services in the coming weeks.

“We want to help ensure customers are able to travel easily and comfortably over the festive season. Parking is free at each site and we and have made this decision to increase frequencies to support everyone who’s planning to come into the city and experience its festivities.”

Cllr Pete Kilbane, Deputy Leader and Executive Member for Economy and Transport at City of York Council, added:

“We are pleased to be working with First York to support the increased frequency of Park & Ride services, at a time of year when we see more people visiting and enjoying all the festivities York has to offer.

“We hope this will benefit the residents of York and encourage visitors to travel sustainably to the city and nearby shopping areas, boosting the local economy at this important time of year.

“If you’re coming into York this festive season, please use one of our Park & Ride services if you can. As well as enjoying all that the city has to offer you will be helping to cut Christmas congestion and reduce vehicle emissions.”
